Three Juniors Selected to Boys State

Three members of Ellenville’s Class of 2018 have been selected as delegates to attended The American Legion’s Boys State at SUNY Morrisville this summer.

Rit Carroll, Zachary Bonitz, and Ben Bonitz will attend the prestigious weeklong program June 25 – July 1 along with delegates from across New York. At Boys State they’ll learn the practical aspects of New York state government, citizenship and leadership under the guidance of American Legion counselors and U.S. Marines, said Ellenville Town Justice Charles Dechon of Ellenville American Legion Post 111. Local Legion posts select and sponsor the high school juniors who attend the program.

Boys State training focuses on the structure of city, county and state governments. Operated by students elected to various offices, activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses, and recreational programs. Boys State was founded in 1935.
